چکیده

Kernel density estimation (KDE) is a popular nonparametric density estimation method. We (1) derive finite-sample high-probability density estimation bounds for multivariate KDE under mild density assumptions which hold uniformly in x ∈ R and bandwidth matrices. We apply these results to (2) mode, (3) density level set, and (4) class probability estimation and attain optimal rates up to logarithmic factors. We then (5) provide an extension of our results under the manifold hypothesis. Finally, we (6) give uniform convergence results for local intrinsic dimension estimation.

Convergence rates in weighted L1 spaces of kernel density estimators for linear processes

Abstract. Pointwise and uniform convergence rates for kernel estimators of the stationary density of a linear process have been obtained by several authors. Here we obtain rates in weighted L1 spaces. In particular, if infinitely many coefficients of the process are non-zero and the innovation density has bounded variation, then nearly parametric rates are achievable by proper choice of kernel ...

Uniform Consistency of Nonstationary Kernel-Weighted Sample Covariances for Nonparametric Regression

We obtain uniform consistency results for kernel-weighted sample covariances in a nonstationary multiple regression framework that allows for both fixed design and random design coefficient variation. In the fixed design case these nonparametric sample covariances have different uniform convergence rates depending on direction, a result that differs fundamentally from the random design and stat...

Almost Sure Convergence Rates for the Estimation of a Covariance Operator for Negatively Associated Samples

Let {Xn, n >= 1} be a strictly stationary sequence of negatively associated random variables, with common continuous and bounded distribution function F. In this paper, we consider the estimation of the two-dimensional distribution function of (X1,Xk+1) based on histogram type estimators as well as the estimation of the covariance function of the limit empirical process induced by the se...

Uniform Consistency for Nonparametric Estimators in Null Recurrent Time Series

This paper establishes several results for uniform convergence of nonparametric kernel density and regression estimates for the case where the time series regressors concerned are nonstationary null– recurrent Markov chains. Under suitable conditions, certain rates of convergence are also established for these estimates. Our results can be viewed as an extension of some well–known uniform consi...

Consistency of the kernel density estimator - a survey

Various consistency proofs for the kernel density estimator have been developed over the last few decades. Important milestones are the pointwise consistency and almost sure uniform convergence with a fixed bandwidth on the one hand and the rate of convergence with a fixed or even a variable bandwidth on the other hand. While considering global properties of the empirical distribution functions...
